Getting started with your device

  • The power button is usually on the side or top edge. Hold it for a few seconds to turn the device on or off.
  • Use the side buttons to adjust volume. Screen brightness is available in the quick menu or display settings.
  • Check the battery level regularly and turn on battery-saving mode when it is low.
  • Protect the device with a code, password, fingerprint or face recognition.

Wi-Fi, mobile data and Bluetooth

Wi-Fi connects a device to the internet through a wireless network. At home, select your network name and enter its password.

Mobile data is provided by your mobile operator. It works without Wi-Fi, but usage may be limited by your plan.

Bluetooth connects nearby devices, such as a phone with headphones, a speaker or a watch.

Android and iOS

Android offers a wide choice of devices and more customisation. iOS runs on Apple devices and is more consistent and closely integrated with other Apple services.

Download apps only from the official Google Play or App Store and enable automatic updates.

Practical task

Try this on your device

  1. Find the Wi-Fi settings and check which network you are connected to.
  2. Open Bluetooth settings and view the list of available devices. Do not connect to a device you do not recognise.
  3. Check your screen lock and whether a system update is available.
