‘Women without Thrones’

Women without Thrones was created to highlight women who lacked the power available to men, yet still left a visible mark on history.

The first publication by the non-profit Centre for Religious and Historical Studies (CEREHIS) focuses on women who did not enjoy these privileges.

Academic studies by eleven specialists examine selected historical women and their contributions to society and culture.

The newspaper Postoj wrote about the book:

‘We chose the throne as a symbol of the power these women did not possess. They could not intervene in public policy and put their ideas into practice there, yet they managed to find their own “place in the sun”, where they could use their intellect and realise their potential.’

‘The book contains chapters on women as saints, pioneers of emancipation in public life, artists, writers and continuers of family lineages. We sought to show them from different perspectives and backgrounds, and to demonstrate that women changed history “on every front”.’

The book also encourages women today to realise their potential and devote themselves to creative work and areas of life that matter to them, as their predecessors did.
