We have a great idea for a belated Children's Day celebration for young history enthusiasts, especially those fascinated by ancient Egypt. On 3 June, Tabačka in Košice will become a mysterious land of pyramids where young adventurers uncover Pharaoh's Secrets. We start at 13:00.
Original ancient Egyptian games
What better way to introduce children to ancient Egypt than through creative workshops, costumes, theatre and, of course, games? Will you challenge an opponent at Senet, one of the oldest known board games, played for more than 3,000 years? Or try Mehen, regarded as the first multiplayer game in history? Its board is shaped like a coiled snake: Mehen was a serpent god. The first player to reach the snake's head wins. Children waiting for a place at the gaming tables can colour pictures or make Egyptian-themed bookmarks and figurines.
Hieroglyphs and a distinguished Egyptologist
Hieroglyphs were an essential part of Egyptian civilisation. This fascinating pictorial script still amazes specialists and the public alike. Our young visitors will learn several signs and even try writing their names in hieroglyphs.
We are honoured that the distinguished Egyptologist Mgr. Marie Peterková Hlouchová, PhD., has accepted our invitation. She has taken part in several archaeological expeditions in Egypt and Sudan and specialises in Old Kingdom religion and the study of first-millennium BCE wooden coffins found at Abusir. She is already looking forward to questions from our young Egyptologists 🙂
Games and creative activities will pause for the theatre performance The Queen Bee, a symbol of Lower Egypt. The day ends with a raffle offering great prizes for our young adventurers.
