About the lecture
Biblical texts fascinate generations of believers and non-believers. Readers often ask how these texts reached us, who copied them and under what circumstances, and how closely today's Bibles reflect the authors' originals. Egyptian papyrus finds are crucial to seeking, and sometimes finding, answers. This lecture examines several significant New Testament papyri, introduces major manuscript discoveries and considers their importance for understanding the history of the biblical text.
Peter Málik studied Biblical Philology at the University of Cambridge, focusing on Greek and Coptic New Testament manuscripts. He teaches New Testament subjects at the Department of Theology, Matej Bel University, and is a researcher at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, working on an edition of paratextual materials in Byzantine manuscripts of Revelation.
