About the lecture
St Ladislaus was one of the principal patrons of the Kingdom of Hungary, regarded as a protector of the homeland—athleta patriae. Numerous surviving murals across the former kingdom attest to his widespread cult, with many examples in Slovakia's Gemer region. Less well known is that stories of the saintly king's heroic deeds also reached the Orthodox world and survive in written sources from the Grand Principality of Moscow.
Michal Augustovič is a curator at Bratislava City Museum. He studied History at Comenius University in Bratislava and Medieval Studies at Central European University in Vienna. At the time of the lecture, he was a part-time doctoral researcher in Slovak History at Comenius University. In his free time, he works on Gemer's medieval sacred heritage through the Gothic Route association.
