Prevention and Support for Victims of “Cults”

Can we tell whether a religious community is dangerous? What are cults and new religious movements? What characterises them, and what are their perceived and actual risks? How can harm be prevented, and how can we support people whose relatives have joined a radical religious community or who are leaving one themselves? Where can information, advice and assistance be found in Czechia and Slovakia? Scholar of religion and educator Jitka Schlichtsová addresses these and other questions.

Mgr. Jitka Schlichtsová (born 1988) is a doctoral researcher at the Protestant Theological Faculty, Charles University in Prague. She teaches religious studies and psychology, belongs to the Czech Society for the Study of Sects and New Religious Movements, and edits the quarterly Dingir and the website Náboženský infoservis. Her long-standing interests particularly concern the activities of so-called cults in Czechia and Slovakia.
