Most people associate ancient Egypt with mummies, pyramids and treasures hidden in the mysterious tombs of forgotten pharaohs. Yet the ancient Egyptians were much more like us than we might imagine, living many aspects of their lives in familiar ways. Everyday objects, frequently uncovered during excavations of ancient settlements, reveal these similarities. What furnished an Egyptian kitchen, bedroom or living room? This lecture explores ‘trends’ in ancient Egyptian homes and household furnishings.
Mag. Lucia Hulková, PhD., is an Egyptologist and doctoral researcher at the University of Vienna. She serves on the board of the Gedíd Aigyptos Foundation and belongs to the Polish-Slovak team excavating Tell el-Retaba in the eastern Nile Delta. She has also participated in excavations at Elephantine, Abydos and in Sudan. Her research focuses on the material culture of the Second Intermediate Period and Egypt's relations with its neighbours during that time.
