Cleopatra—admired and condemned. Why does she still fascinate us two thousand years after her death? The seventh queen of that name was an exceptional woman: powerful, educated and captivating, she won over two of the world's most powerful men, Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. Was she truly the calculating sinner portrayed by Roman authors? What do Egyptian sources reveal? The lecture presents Cleopatra as ruler, lover, mother and muse to many artists.
Mgr. Alexandra Pastoreková graduated in Classical Archaeology and Egyptology from the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. At the time of the lecture, she worked at the Czech Institute of Egyptology in Prague on archival and cataloguing activities. She specialises in Roman Egypt, particularly sculptural portraiture, and has participated in excavations in Slovakia, Czechia, the United Kingdom and the institute's mission at Abusir.
