About the lecture
The human desire to pass the time by playing is undoubtedly ancient. Ancient Egypt provides abundant evidence of games, from children's toys to board games. This programme focuses on board games, beginning with a lecture on their history, meaning and rules. Visitors can then play for themselves, just as the ancient Egyptians did.
Marie Peterková Hlouchová studied Egyptology and History at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. At the time of this archived lecture, she had recently defended her dissertation on Old Kingdom deities with solar aspects. She researches Old Kingdom religion and wooden coffins and is also an editor ofPražské egyptologické studie.
