About the lecture
This lecture introduces the use of spatial information and modern technology to uncover the remains of Maya civilisation. It takes you into the tropical jungle of northern Guatemala, where a Slovak archaeological team has worked since 2009. In recent years, the team has contributed to major discoveries using airborne laser scanning, attracting attention in publications such as Science and National Geographic.
Surveyor Tibor Lieskovský is a researcher and lecturer at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. His long-standing work explores spatial data in the analysis, documentation and protection of cultural heritage. He is a member of archaeological expeditions in Guatemala, the Middle East and Sudan.
