About the lecture
Alexandria was one of many cities founded by Alexander the Great and named after him, yet it was unique. Admired and condemned, it was a city of learning and art, unrest and vice; a royal residence and the setting of major historical events. It survives today, but what was ancient Alexandria like? Where were Alexander and Cleopatra laid to rest? What legacy remains? These are some of the questions explored in a lecture devoted to this jewel of the ancient world.
Mgr. Alexandra Pastoreková graduated in Classical Archaeology and Egyptology from the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. At the time of the lecture, she worked at the Czech Institute of Egyptology in Prague. She specialises in Roman Egypt and its material culture and has participated in excavations in Slovakia, Czechia, the United Kingdom and the institute's mission at Abusir.
