Mgr. Lenka Horáková is a doctoral researcher at the Department of Comparative Religious Studies, Faculty of Arts, Comenius University in Bratislava. She focuses on Mesoamerican cultures, particularly the Maya, and has participated in five field seasons of the Slovak archaeological project at Uaxactun, Guatemala. The Maya were one of antiquity's most advanced cultures. Their extensive astronomical knowledge informed sophisticated calendars and monumental architecture. Decipherment of their developed hieroglyphic script offers insights into their history and religious ideas. What about the end of the world and bloody sacrifices? The January lecture also examines these questions.
