About the lecture
Mgr. Silvia Štubňová comes from Banská Bystrica. She earned a bachelor's degree in Egyptology at the University of Liverpool, England, and a master's at Leiden University in the Netherlands. At the time of the lecture, she was midway through doctoral studies at Brown University in the USA, working on a dissertation about the ancient Egyptian language. Her interests also include translation, literature, religion and everyday life in ancient Egypt.

Ancient Egyptian Myths About the Creation of the World and Humankind.
Today we know that Earth belongs to the Solar System in the Milky Way, one of countless galaxies in an expanding universe. But what did the ancient Egyptian universe contain, long before telescopes? How did Egyptians explain natural phenomena without modern physics? How did the universe originate, what were its properties, and did anything precede creation? What caused day and night? This lecture explores their perceptions of the world and their thinking about what lay beyond the visible universe. Their reflections survive in cosmogonic myths recorded from the earliest periods at different sites. These texts bring us closest to ancient Egyptian philosophical thought.
