MACU – Making Culture a Powerful Tool of Involving Seniors into Democratic Life is an international Erasmus+ project (KA210-ADU – Small-scale Partnerships in Adult Education). Over 12 months, it connects organisations and participants from Slovakia, Poland and Romania. It uses culture, art, historical memory and personal stories to involve older adults more actively in civic, democratic and community life.
Why the project was created
Many older adults experience social isolation, digital exclusion and limited opportunities to take part in public discussion. MACU creates a safe space where their experience, memories and perspectives become an important part of shared learning. The project strengthens critical thinking, democratic awareness, intergenerational dialogue and shared European values.
What we do
- Journey of Knowledge combines visits to historical places with reflection on the socialist period, personal memories and conversations about freedom, democracy and civic responsibility.
- Power of Poetry uses poetry, creative writing and storytelling to foster dialogue between generations and cultures.
- Driven by Democracy will bring together older and younger people from three countries to create a joint international theatre performance.
Outputs and partnership
The project develops inclusive adult-learning methods, a digital platform and an e-book presenting methodologies and examples of good practice. It is coordinated by Toruński Uniwersytet Trzeciego Wieku in Poland, with CEREHIS in Slovakia and Asociația „Liga Scriitorilor” Filiala Timișoara Banat in Romania as partners.
